The Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) is pleased to invite you to the Local Climate Solutions for Africa (LoCS4Africa) virtual congress on the theme “Financing for Change” from 3-12 November 2020.
For local governments in Africa, access to finance is one of the biggest obstacles to respond effectively to local climate change impacts and ensure sustainable energy access. CoM SSA is supporting local governments in Sub-Saharan Africa to plan local climate and energy action, and unlock finance. This year’s Local Climate Solutions for Africa (LoCS4Africa) theme aims to respond to the growing acknowledgement worldwide that, to tackle climate change, city-scale finance must be mobilised.
CoM SSA is partnering with ICLEI Africa’s LoCS4Africa 2020 virtual congress: the key forum for leaders to share strategies on climate action and financing for cities in Africa. Co-hosted by the Government of Rwanda, the City of Kigali and The Rwandan Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA), the online event will offer an unprecedented occasion for city stakeholders from across Africa to convene remotely, and progress these discussions between groups that rarely engage directly.
The virtual congress will take place over two weeks and will feature a CoM SSA Day on 5 November, dedicated to the most pressing issues for CoM SSA signatories. Sessions will be designed and hosted in collaboration with a range of partners from cities, the development sector, the finance sector, and the public sector. Participants can expect thought-provoking panel discussions, innovative workshops and interactive peer-to-peer knowledge exchanges.
All CoM SSA sessions at LOCS4Africa 2020 will have simultaneous translation in French, English and Portuguese.

African subnational governments have evidence-based plans and projects to accelerate climate action, but significantly increased funding is needed to implement these at scale.
